Fundamental Fairness - the documentary I worked on with Pat Scallet and Bobbie Lautenschlager - has obliterated the competition at the Lake Arrowhead Film Festival - it won the documentary prize, even as a short going against features! Way to rock the house, gang!
Also, The Game, a short piece I shot under Chris Grega's direction, has been selected to screen at the 2004 St. Louis International Film Festival as a pre-feature short for a documentary about obsessed Scrabble players called Word Wars! Sounds pretty awesome - it will show at Webster University on November 16th and 17th - times TBA!

This is a little off-topic, but the television show I produce and edit - Dream Season for Drury Outdoors is up for a GOLDEN MOOSE AWARD from The Outdoor Channel! You can help it win a fan favorite by clicking HERE. Normally, I wouldn't mention this here, but it's a freaking GOLDEN MOOSE AWARD, of course I gotta mention it. |

It's that time again - St. Louis Movie Lounge at Frederick's Music Lounge - get your ass down there and check out CANNIBAL - another feature film, directed by Wolfgang Lehmkuhl, edited by me. It starts at 9:00PM, free admission, 21+ only, I expect you there, I may throw away all of my posters if you don't come.
Also, the collaboration between myself and Chris Grega of 88MM Productions has been shot, and, according to Chris, edited. It's a short that he wrote and directed that I filmed (or video taped, however you want to look at it...) - I think it will probably premiere at the next St. Louis Movie Lounge, but nothing is for sure yet, I'll let you know this - it's about DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS, version 3.5!
Finally, a documentary that I worked on as "post-production supervisor" has been completed - Fundamental Fairness from Pat Scallet and Bobbie Lautenschlager. Hopefully this will show soon on HEC-TV sometime in the near future!

Okay, well, there's a lot of things upon us.
Chronologically:
Sunday, July 11th - KDHX-TV - Channel 21 on Charter cable in St. Louis city - is showing all of the projects made for the 48 Hour Film Project from 9:00PM until 10:00PM. Twenty-five in all, one of which is the project I worked on, Radiation Always Wins!
Monday, July 12th - Surviving Dirk, a feature film I edited, will be showing at Frederick's Music Lounge as part of their monthly St. Louis Movie Lounge - FOUR HOURS OF LOCAL FILMS starting at 5PM, playing until 9PM, then repeating until 1AM! Free admission, free popcorn, 21+ only.
Wednesday, July 14th - Every 30 Seconds, a short film featuring Matt Sinopole, will be screening in the "Comic Relief" program in the 2004 St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase! It starts at 9:30PM at the Tivoli Theater, tickets are $9 and are available at the Tivoli's box office.
Thursday, July 15th - Once again, Radiation Always Wins will show in the 48 Hour Film Project program in the 2004 St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase. It starts at 7:30PM at the Tivoli Theater, tickets are $9 and are available at the Tivoli's box office.
Finally, Chris Grega (of 88MM Productions) has approached me about a collaboration between the two of us - just a short, low-budget piece - I'll send out more details as the project develops!

Just real quick - if you're interested in hearing the Robert Goetz's award-winning song, "Where's My Fucking Sword?" (that was featured in our 48 Hour Film, Radiation Always Wins), check out The Underworld - a radio show on KDHX 88.1 FM that plays on Thursdays at 2:00PM. Don't know if DJ Doug Morgan will be playing the song this upcoming Thursday or the next, but you'll know it when you hear it.

So, the results have been resulted - Radiation Always Wins (the 48 Hour Film Project I helped out with) will be screening in this year's 2004 St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase at the Tivoli Theater on Thursday, July 15th, at 7:30PM, along with other films produced for the 48 Hour Film Project. Personally, I think that's kinda weird that they would all show together, yet again, but I'm glad it's being exposed to more people. There's an important lesson to be learned with that piece, hopefully you will pick up on it.
In addition, the short directed by Jeremy Corray and featuring Matt Sinopole, Every 30 Seconds, will also be screening on Wednesday, July 14th, at 9:30PM.
I have posted the complete schedule on our message board, in the "screenings" forum, you should check it out, there's some links to some of the projects, so you can find out more information on them.
Unfortunately, you may have noticed that so far, I haven't mentioned the two features that I edited, Surviving Dirk and Cannibal, and this is mainly because they were rejected. A terrible injustice, these films are very strong showings from first time director Wolfgang Lehmkuhl, but I know that time and space is limited, and feature-length films always have a tougher time making it into festivals that focus on shorts. Hopefully, sometime soon, these films will both show at Frederick's Music Lounge as part of their St. Louis Movie Lounge night. I encourage everyone to come out and support the St. Louis Movie Lounge next Monday, June 14th.

Wow, what a screening last night, people went apeshit for the piece I worked on, Radiation Always Wins - thanks to everyone who went, supported, voted, screamed, cheered - and special thanks to my collaborators - Robert Goetz, Brett Williams, and Michael Crane - it was rockin' (not as much as that 48 Hour Film Project theme song though....)
Big congratulations goes out to all the winners last night, especially Script Mechanics for winning "Best Film" with The Article - a fine, fine piece of cinema. And, if you haven't heard, our piece was so dope, they had to create a category - Best Song - which we won.
If you missed the 48 Hour Film Project screenings at Webster University, you'll be able to see our piece sometime soon at Frederick's Music Lounge as part of their St. Louis Movie Lounge night. We have also submitted Radiation Always Wins to the 2004 St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase - I will let you know more information when I hear back from both.

So, the 48 hour film
projects that were screened the past two nights were excellent - I have to admit, I was surprised by the overall quality - I knew there would be some outstanding ones, but I didn't know there'd be enough good pieces to make a hydra dizzy.
You may or may not know already, but the films screened for the 48 hour film project were voted on and judged. This coming Wednesday, May 26th, the Webster Film Series and KDHX-TV are screening "The Best 48 Hour Film of St. Louis" at the Winifred-Moore
Auditorium (470 E Lockwood in Webster Groves). I am pleased to announce that the piece I worked on, Radiation Always Wins, will be included in Wednesday's screening. So, if you can make it there before 8:00PM (last Tuesday, the screening was SOLD OUT!) and can spare $5.00, it would definitely be worth checking out.
There were many fine films that made it, here's a comprehensive list of all that did:
The Putt-Putt Professional by Thadius Pictures
Ice Cream Man: Alias Sam Piccone by Izufu Revolutions
The Article by Script Mechanics
The 7-minute Film Project by IAU Productions
Southside Story by 88mm Productions
Kitsch-en Kable by Flying Pig Digital
The Ice Cream Man by STL 48
Radiation Always Wins by Nosey Parker
Gotta Have Pride: The Big Gay Musical by ego-free productions
The Prince by Stagemother Productions |

I have been working all this weekend on a film for the 48 hour film
project with the group, Nosey Parker
(comprised of myself, Robert Goetz, Brett Williams, and Michael Crane).
The film is near completion as I type this and I wanted to let you all
know that it will be screening at Webster University's Winifred-Moore
Auditorium (470 E Lockwood in Webster Groves) on Tuesday, May 18th at 7PM AND on Wednesday, May 19th at 9PM with a whole slew of other 48 hour
projects. It is not a Rock N Roll Bacteria Production, but I did a lot of work on it and I think the final result is pretty good, especially
considering we did it all in 48 hours.
Hope to see you all there, I haven't decided if I will attend both
screenings or not, but I'll be there for one of them at least. There is
also another group of 48 Hour Films being screened, May 18th at 9PM and
May 19th at 7PM, same theater.

Just a small note, Matt Sinopole will be shooting with good friend, Jeremy Corray, on his new short, Every 30 Seconds, this weekend. This is their first time actually working together, even though Rock N Roll Bacteria Productions put on an event with the both of them.

Well, one of the Left South Productions is completely finished, Surviving Dirk and the other, Cannibal, is having its audio freaked right now by Shawn Donoho - should be good, I'll let you know when these are debuting.
There's a short film I worked on as an assistant director and I think I'll be editing it as well (maybe I am mistaken....but I think that's the deal) called *Pour Chaque Non* by Rob Severson. He is having a benefit show next week to raise money for the video transfer, so, if you're interested, you should come out, here are the details:
FROM ROB SEVERSON:
Hello all! I have recently finished the shooting of a movie in French entitled *Pour Chaque Non* (*For Every "No"*). This is great news, but I'm too poor to develop the film on which the movie was shot. To help pay for this, I am having a small handful (two or three) of benefit concerts/shows in the St. Louis area. The first of these is to occur on Wednesday, April 21st, 2004 at the Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center (directions in a minute). This is a drug- and alcohol-free community-oriented art space that has graciously offered us the opportunity for what promises to be a most excellent benefit concert. More information at http://www.lemp-arts.org. The show will cost $5 and doors will be open at 8:00PM. The show is expected to be over before 11:00PM sometime. The bands playing the benefit include, and are probably limited to, the following (in no particular order):
BILL MICHALSKI & THE URBAN BLIGHT PLAYERS: Awesome local singer/songwriter/graphic designer Bill Michalski (also of Prune) and his hand-picked backing band whose light-hearted jabs at a host of subjects from urban sprawl to pie to the cosmic and romantic impossibility of finding Ms.
Perfect provide for an intimate and entertaining time.
THAT'S MY DAUGHTER: A relatively new band comprised of Jaffa Aharonov (local photographer, also of Cuando Greg & The Chives), Lindsay Reber (Visibility Troop), Sara Oberst, and Tim Dreste. Excellent energy and a (mostly) grrrl-rockin' time.
THE PTA: Yes, you read correctly: The PTA! Putting in a special reunion appearance, the PTA present their energetic (if heartbreaking...not to mention, sweaty) accounts of teen and post-teen love mishaps and the ever-present frustration presented by the existence of girl-stealing fraternity brothers. Featuring local filmmaker Pat Walsh (arriving THAT NIGHT just to entertain YOU), Mike Jostedt, and original (!) drummer Tommy Schmitz! If you missed 'em when they were
still OFFICIALLY together, don't make the same mistake twice!
Also, I'm considering singing a few songs (in French!) myself (possibly accompanied by Ron Warner, star of the film).
DIRECTIONS TO THE LEMP NEIGHBORHOOD ARTS CENTER:
Interstate 44 to
Exit at Interstate 55 SOUTH
Exit at ARSENAL, take a RIGHT
Immediate LEFT onto LEMP
Two blocks up on the right, at LEMP & UTAH
3301 LEMP (You'll see a painting of a big bottle and the word ARTZ! on
the building)
Please come on out to help raise money for my movie (not to mention, to see some awesome bands that'll not likely appear on the same bill together again for a long time, if ever!). Thanks!
Other than that, not much progress has been made on any outside projects, I'll keep rockin if you keep rollin though.
PEACE

I have been editing for a freaking long long time on two feature productions from Left South Productions and director Wolfgang Lehmkuhl. One is Surviving Dirk - which is sort of a dark comedy - just check out their website - they'll explain it better than me. The other is Cannibal - completely different from the tone of Surviving Dirk - again, check their site, just want to plug those projects - they're real close to being completed, hopefully you'll be able to see them debut at the 2004 St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase.
There are a couple of collaborations being tossed around, both of them would be live events, so I'm really looking forward to them, but I hate to mention any details about things that are still so up in the air, so I'll just leave it at that.
I am in the middle of post-production for a short student film directed by Anne Freivogel. Also, soon I should start post-production on another short student film directed by Rob Severson.
You may have heard of the 48 Hour Film Competition - well, I have been included on one of the filmmaking teams from St. Louis - when I know more about what the project is going to be like, what role I'll actually end up playing, and if we are even accepted into the competition, I'll let you know.
Finally, I am shuffling my schedule around to focus in a lot more on my first attempt at writing a feature length movie script. Can't give away too many details, but what I've got lined up for it so far is very exciting - I'll say only this, it will be a barbarian bloodfest that I might be be uncomfortable showing to my grandparents when it's done.
